Recent Designs In The News

P&W’s 44m Performance Schooner concept

Several Persak & Wurmfeld designs have been featured in recent press. Click on the links to read the full articles:

Superyacht Design, Q14 2013 issue featured a story on the principles behind the development of our 44 meter Performance Schooner concept. P&W and Derecktor Shipyards are now collaborating on a full program for this super sailing yacht to be presented during the 2013 fall show season. Stay tuned.

Multihulls World, May/June 2013 Issue and the online Italian magazine SVN la vela nel web, issue n. 11, each ran a detailed profile the Motive 25R trimaran.

Showboats INTERNATIONAL, February 2013 Issue, ran a short piece on our 60 meter Expedition Mega Yacht concept, the second in a series of expedition yachts P&W has developed in partnership with Hakvoort Shipyard.

P&W Now Working in Solid Edge

Siemens Solid Edge

P&W has recently acquired Solid Edge by Siemens and is now using the software to support multiple design projects.

Solid Edge is the most complete hybrid 2D/3D CAD system that uses synchronous technology for accelerated design. With superior core modeling and process work flows and fully integrated design management, Solid Edge helps us guide even our most complex projects toward error free, accurate design solutions.

The software has excellent part and assembly modeling, from a single part to thousands of components, transparent data management, and built-in finite element analysis. All this means we can streamline complexities in design, and ultimately shorten our design and development cycle times.

Jeremy Wurmfeld & Carl Persak Both Teaching This Spring

Jeremy Wurmfeld (right) advising Derek Kucksdorf on his design

Jeremy Wurmfeld is currently serving as a thesis advisor to Interior Design MFA student Derek Kucksdorf, who is set to graduate from the New York School of Interior Design this spring. Kucksdorf’s senior project is to design the interior spaces of a 280’ mega motor yacht. He is on track to present his design at the end of this semester. Kucksdorf plans to enter the field of yacht interior design upon graduation.

Carl Persak continues to serve as a faculty advisor for his alma mater, Webb Institute. This semester he is working with a group of junior students in their yacht design course, focusing on an IMOCA (International Monohull Open Class Association) Open 60’ Sloop.

Brooklyn Boatworks Update

Student boat builders Teddy and Sydney, measuring a hull side for their Opti Pram

P&W remains a sponsor of Brooklyn Boatworks, an educational boat building program they founded in 2005. Students graduate the program with basic construction and sailing skills, and a rewarding year long experience that reinforces the values of perseverance, cooperation and craftsmanship. The organization keeps growing, with boat building programs now in five sites across New York City. More than fifty hardworking and proud youngsters will launch their hand built wooden Optimist sailboats into the Hudson River during a celebration on June 11.

This past month students took time out from building to meet with local professionals working in architecture, engineering, design, construction and the maritime industry to gain a better understanding about what working in these fields is all about.
