SMALL YACHT DESIGN SHOWCASE

After focusing on some of our larger designs in our last newsletter, we’re happy to share several smaller P&W concepts and designs currently on the boards. Please visit our project page or contact us to discuss any of the yachts above.

HOLLAND YACHT VALLEY TOUR

The Holland Yachting Group invited Jeremy Wurmfeld to join eight other naval architects and interior designers for the five day Holland Yacht Valley Tour in November 2011. Wurmfeld visited shipyards and yacht suppliers across Holland, making connections and building numerous relationships that will benefit our clients.

HISWA Holland Yachting Group is well-known for their 20 year history of hosting the international press and purchasers of foreign shipyards. Since 2003 the group has annually hosted international yacht designers and interior designers as well. Carl Persak attended in 2005. P&W thanks the Holland Yachting Group and all of the companies we visited for their generous hospitality.

ENGINEERING THE MODERN SUPERYACHT

The Society for Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) invited Carl Persak to present his technical paper, “Engineering of a Modern Superyacht” to their joint meeting with Society of Port Engineers on December 7, 2011. Persak’s technical paper covered the complexities of engineering a Superyacht, and the myriad of specialized disciplines necessary for the project’s success.

Persak addressed the various engineering disciplines involved, the particular challenges each faces, the tools and methods for addressing those challenges, and how their efforts are successfully integrated. His presentation provoked a spirited 40 minute question and answer and discussion period.

VISIT TO BROOKLYN BOATWORKS

Jeremy Wurmfeld works with a Brooklyn Boatworks student to perfect his cutting technique.

Late in December Carl Persak and Jeremy Wurmfeld paid a visit to the Community Roots Charter School in Fort Greene, Brooklyn to see Brooklyn Boatworks students in action and lend a hand on their Optimist build.  Follow the students' inspiring progress in the Brooklyn Boatworks gallery, and support the program here.

Carl Persak and Jeremy Wurmfeld started Brooklyn Boatworks in 2005 to teach leadership and life skills to inner-city youth through art of traditional boatbuilding. P&W remains a proud sponsor of the program today.
